As the number of girls participating in sports increased netball emerged from ancient variations of basketball and evolved into its own sport. Basketball was invented in 1891 by James Naismith in the USA. The sport was originally played indoors using association soccer that was thrown right into closed-end peach baskets.
Variations of the principles and Naismith's game spread rapidly across the United States emerged. Education instructor Senda Berenson developed modified rules for women in 1892; these gave rise. For men and women, separate principles were developed around this time.
With the development in the game, we saw emergence and development in the netball uniform as well which was as follows:
The Beginning
The netball uniforms were woolen box pleat tunics that attained well below the players' knees. The tops were of cotton using a collar (appropriate to maintain a tie). Woolen stockings were worn.
In the 1930s
In the 1930s the uniform was broadly changed to a blouse, pleated tunic and matching bloomers and sports shoes.
Mid 1930's & late 1960's
During this time period the tunics gradually shortened in length, socks took the position of stockings, the substances used (cotton and wool ) became lighter and nicer. As the fashions of the time changed this trend continued. During this time as the tunics shortened, sports briefs replaced bloomers.Early 1970's
Tunics were replaced with ribbons and polo tops were introduced. Bibs also were also introduced around this time, which made identifying the players' position simple.Mid 1995 & 1970's's
The polo shirts were made of light cotton knit and adopted the trends of the time: skin tight (the 70's), looser (80's) and oversized (90's).Mid 1990's
From 1993 to 1995 the entire body match was introduced by most Australian National League teams. Also at this time bibs were modified to get press-studs or velcro for efficient and simple changeovers.Current Trend
The netball bodysuits today are made out of a lycra-based material that's light, durable and easy to wash.Netball is among the most played sports in Australia. If you are looking for the best pair of customized netball uniforms visit Team Merch
